Komrce started from a misunderstanding that cost money

Agencies and eCommerce clients speak different languages. The story below is the road from that observation to a simulation where teams learn the common language by playing.

Collaboration between digital marketing agencies and eCommerce businesses often suffers from misaligned expectations, communication gaps, and a lack of mutual understanding. The academic research behind Komrce shows that over 60% of agencies identify "educating clients about campaign complexity" as their main challenge.

Komrce puts participants in the role of growth manager of an online store. Each team makes decisions about pricing, marketing across 4 market segments, inventory, logistics, customer service and financing, and sees the consequences immediately. Think of it as a flight simulator for entrepreneurs.

It's not a theory course. It's a strategic competition where mistakes cost money and good decisions show up in profit, NPS and brand equity. The simulation forces systems thinking: participants discover that success doesn't come from tweaking one lever, but from coordinating all aspects of the business.

How we got here

Eight moments, in the order they happened.

  1. 2010

    Performance marketing, from zero

Ionuț founds WebDigital, Romania's first specialized PPC agency, which has helped over 500 companies grow. Almost two decades spent developing the performance marketing market.

  2. 2018

    The boards

Board member of IAB Romania and the CEE Digital Alliance, a cooperation platform of 14 European agencies. The same problem, across the whole region.

  3. 2023

    The lectern

As a professor, he teaches "Performance in Digital Media" at the Faculty of Communication and Public Relations, SNSPA. The first time the hypothesis meets a room full of students.

  4. The recurring problem

Working with hundreds of eCommerce clients reveals a pattern: agencies and clients speak different languages. Each side thinks the other doesn't understand. And both are right.

  5. The inspiration

Prof. Andrew Papadopoulos (ESG UQAM), a strategy specialist and former investment banker, teaches through case studies and business simulations. His courses prove that hands-on experience beats any theoretical presentation.

  6. What the market was missing

Existing business simulations were expensive, rigid and generic. None were specific to eCommerce, which is exactly where the money and the patience were being lost.

  7. 2025

    The research

In the Romanian-Canadian ROCA Executive MBA program, at Bucharest Business School (ASE) and ESG UQAM, the agency-client gap is researched through dual-perspective surveys. The result: the problem isn't technical, it's educational. Both sides say "I need to better understand what the other does".

  8. 2026

    Komrce

A modern simulation platform that puts teams in charge of a virtual online store and lets them discover through direct experience why their decisions matter. From a spreadsheet MVP to a full web application.

"I built Komrce because I kept seeing the same thing: people who, in theory, knew what to do, but froze when they had to make a real decision."
